Aronimink

After posting a scorching 6-2 record in the U.S. Open, yours truly took a much needed vacation to the coast and paid attention to the Travelers for fantasy purposes only. I’m back at it again this week, and looking forward to watching the boys take on a classic Donald Ross track outside Philly.

Tournament Matchup Bets

  • Ryan Moore (+105) vs. Watney – Moore is a well known Ross aficionado, and is coming of a T2 last week. I think these two go head-to-head and I’m only betting against Watney because of the value on Moore.
  • KJ Choi (-135) vs. Furyk – Mantra for the past few weeks… bet against Furyk, Ogilvy, and Scott.
  • Vijay Singh (-120) vs. Oglivy – The Big Fij is my darkhorse pick this week, and note my comment just above.
  • Charles Howell III (-110) vs. Scott – You haven’t seen Chucky Three Sticks’ name here lately, but he’s coming off a T3 in Memphis and is playing well. Scott, not so much.
  • Carl Pettersson (-115) vs. Woodland – I actually expect the big-hitting Woodland to play well in his first time around Aronimink, but the Wolfpacker Swede is another D-Ross fan with a P6 here last year and is playing real well recently.

Entering the Bear Trap

The tour kicks off the Florida Swing this week, and the first stop is PGA National and its infamous Bear Trap for the Honda Classic.  The Nicklaus design was the toughest non-major course for 2010, and the scores probably won’t be going down this time around even with a stacked international field.  Here are some picks for the weekend:

  • Singh | 20:1 – Playing his best golf in years and a T4 here last year.
  • Allenby | 25:1 – He likes fast boats. Oh, and a he’s had a few top 5s since the move to PGA National.
  • Yang | 40:1 – Past winner and showed form last week.
  • Jacobson (-135) vs. Wi – Back to back top six finishes here and playing well.  Don’t see him toppling this field, but I want coin on him somehow.
