Where The Players Play

_header_hole_17

Five matchup picks for the tour’s fifth major.

  • Jason Day (-125) over Fowler
  • Jim Furyk (-145) over Watson
  • Luke Donald (even) over Scott
  • Lee Westwood (-115) over Kuchar

Worth mentioning: Jimmy Walker (-200) (-150) over Harrington. Seems like free money but I stay away from such short odds. Not sure who’s betting Paddy, but I’m on board now.

Masters Manifesto

Augusta-National-Golf-Club
Hello friends. I’m back after an overly long hiatus to drop some picks on you degenerates for what is the most anticipated edition of the [Hootie Johnson voice] Masters golf tournament [/Hootie Johnson voice] in years. And here they are:

Matchups

  • Stewart Cink (-115) over Singh
  • Bubba Watson (-105) over D. Johnson
  • Ian Poulter (-140) over Harrington
  • Phil Mickelson (+170) over Tiger – VALUE BET
  • Jason Day (-115) over Fowler
  • Ernie Els (-145) over Olesen
  • Henrik Stenson (+120) over Garcia
  • Freddie Jacobson (-165) over Kaymer
  • Phil Mickelson (even) over McIlory

Late night liquor induced additions to the pick list…

  • David Lynn (-135) over Leishman – Apparently the Brit’s got (a short) game.
  • Scott Piercy (+125) over Garrigus – Seems right.
  • Martin Laird (+125) over Webb – Don’t hate me Raleigh.
  • KJ Choi (-145) over Cabrera – The South Korean is coming into form just in time.

Skippin’ Pebbles

Back-to-back weeks of places I have yet to see in person and need to ASAP. Here are the picks:

  • Padraig Harrington (+120) over Garrigus: I think both play well, but Paddy shouldn’t be the dog – he has a great recent record here and comes in playing real well.
  • Steve Marino (+130) over Palmer: Value play & horse-for-the-course combined on this pick.
  • Jimmy Walker (-105) over de Jonge: I love this one.
  • Bryce Molder (+125) over Noh: Ummm… hunch play.

There you have it, four underdog plays this week. Let’s hope I’m right.

Slammed in Scottsdale

phoenix-open

I’m blaming bobcatbias for TDD not being on site at TPC Scottsdale this weekend. If I’m not there in 2014, his upcoming marriage may be a short one.

  • Nick Watney (-120) over Mickelson
  • Kevin Na (+130) over Walker
  • Aaron Baddeley (even) over Day

Tough Torrey

  • Hunter Mahan (+140) over Van Pelt: Holy-what-the-hell is this? Mahan loves Torrey Pines (back-to-back T6s); Van Pelt hasn’t broken 70 in his last five visits here. Load up and ride this underdog matchup like a rented mule.
  • John Huh (-125) over English: The Question drives it well and can putt – oh and he had a T6 here last year that included a 64.
  • Scott Piercy (-120) over Garrigus: The Vegas native played his college golf at SDSU and played exceptionally here last season until a bad Sunday.

Oh, the Humana!

935_pic

The PGA Tour heads back to the mainland and into the desert for this week’s Humana Challenge, with a little help from Bubba Clinton. Here are your picks – let’s keep this 70% hot streak going:

  • Chris Kirk (-120) over Henley
  • Robert Garrigus (-115) over Howell III
  • Pat Perez (-125) over Overton

Island Hopping

Waialae_Country_Club

The tour jumps from Maui to Oahu on a short week (for the best pros) to take on Waialae CC at the Sony Open. Here are some matchup plays to wager on after going 3-1 last week at Kapalua:

  • Steve Marino (+130) over Duke
  • Charles Howell III (-115) over Moore
  • Brendon de Jonge (-140) over Palmer
  • Brian Gay (+110) over Singh

Tourney Of Champs

Kapalua, Plantation Course #18

Welcome back PGA! Braleighwood has returned – revived after a long hiatus from golf gambling where my focus was on wrapping up a four-peat (patent pending) in fantasy golf. Enough bragging, here are some matchup picks for the first tournament of 2013. Work will cease at about 3:30pm today…

  • Matt Kuchar (-105) over Dufner
  • Brandt Snedeker (-105) over Watson
  • Carl Pettersson (-110) over Z. Johnson
  • Charlie Beljan (+115) over Curtis

Can Zingo Drive a Stagecoach?

I really wanted to post photos of a drunk bobcatbias at the Wachovia Wells Fargo Championship above (or the pit lizard that stalked Camillo Villegas a few years ago), but unfortunately fortunately I’ve been too inebriated at said golf tournament to capture it on film… so I’ll just have to stick with the nice landscape photo of #17 above and just give you some quick picks.

Bill Haas (+105) vs. Van Pelt – I’ll take the local boy here.

Cameron Tringale (-120) vs. Day – Small name against big name, hope I didn’t miss the bandwagon.

Yes, I’ve been drinking.

From Green to Tartan

A 6-4 record down at The Masters tooooornament could have been better, but it got us over .500 for the year and now we can get back to our crushing ways of 2011. Here are my picks for this week’s event at relaxing Harbour Town in the Low Country:

Bryce Molder (-115) over Pettersson – Molder can drive it straight, hits greens all day, putt its well, and can scramble when need be… Yes please.

Brandt Snedeker (even) over Simpson – Simpson is struggling right now, plus the defending champ comes in playing well.

Jim Furyk (+130) over Kuchar – This large underdog pick is made with the disclaimer that Kuch’s stats are looking good for this track, but Furyk is the definition of “horse for the course” here and has a lot of value at this rate.

Bo Van Pelt (-115) over Simpson – Not hating on my Raleigh boy, but I like Van Pelt here a lot.

Brian Davis (-180) over Weekley – Davis is coming off back-to-back T4 finishes, and I honestly had no idea Boo was still playing golf (even though he’s won here twice).
